lyrics

Down to Sleep Joe Woodard

I could count the times I counted all the tiny white lies
Told through little black smiles
It's not some sordid affair
No daggers been flung through the air
You've been singling out voices, twisting, shouting in silence
A mime without violence

chorus:
I lay me down to sleep
I pray the Lord to keep us whole
You're never quite sure, we're never quite purified
When you lay me down to sleep, I'm cured

A box of innocence I found inside the room in your eyes
Like penitent skies
An arm's length can be just like miles
When linking has slipped out of style
This talk of status quo, a dog-and-pony show staged in the room
A feeble cartoon

bridge:
Still, wobbly bridges do the trick
I'm banking on us to make it stick
And sleeping to dream of waking up out of time
